Hi,
I also agree on this point, student should help their selves, this is the right way to learn, but teacher should provide guidelines, rest is the responsibility of student.

Hello,
I was scrolling through and I read your blog about your day. I really liked how you said today is a reality, the only person you can change is yourself. It made me think of the Secret CD. I am in control of my reality and if I chose to have a horrible day today, then that is how my day will go. Its good to see that someone else is also at that level where they are saying they want to positively effect their environment with their good attitude.

If a teacher cannot "bend" for their students, they should not be teaching. Teachers are hired to educate children and prepare them for their futures in society. If that means adjusting to 21st century teaching tactics; adjust.

Change has arrived in fundraising. I came across a website www.raisewhileyousave.com (RWYS) the other day when looking into Green fundraising oppurtunities, as I am fed up with my kids going door 2 door and selling cookie dough and magazines. I looked into this new fundraising program which is helping parents Save Money while raising money.they are also helping great causes which don't have any budget to run a fundraiser, as they do all the work for you, by building you a webpage attached to thier website. Thier products are these really snazzy energy saving product kits, which can save parent $100's of dollars on those bills we all hate to open. I thought I would share this information as we could all do with a little extra cash during this economy Im sure. My friend who is a PTA mom is always complaining about the difficulty of getting new ideas, and the lack of interest they have in the same old boring fundraising oppurtunities. I think this is very clever, as the schools and community fundraisers, don't purchase anything, the kids don't need to do anything, the kits save money and help raise money, and apparently they even send the kits out to the parents home, so PTA moms like my friend no longer need to chase moms around the playground to tell them thier products are in the sports hall for collection. we've all been there. :)

Urgh! Technology! URGH... Just wrote a response to this and had it wiped out...no time to do over...

I think this presentation from Michale Wesch would help teachers get started...It is just over an hour...but could be broken up into segments for discussion. Although the audience, and his own teaching, is at the university level, it is applicable to all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4yApagnr0s&feature=channel

If you use Diigo, I have annotated some of his most important points--but you should really watch the whole thing...it is great!

25:18 It is at this point, , where I think Wesch gives teachers a reason to join in:

Students in teachers are in the same boat--no natives here. Although students may know how to navigate these technologies, they rarely know how to use for their own learning, to think critically, and to create meaningfully.

Students and teachers become partners in learning. Students help with the navigation the new media--but teachers guide students in meaningful learning to analyze, synthesize, and generalize.

I blame this on southwest, becasue the last time the levy paseed they lied to the voters and said that no layoffs would happen if we passed this levy. Once the levy passed they laid people off. I don't like the fact they are holding the voters hostage by threating to pull events after school. I remember the last time they had a levy and my kids were in school at a funtion; the principle stated that if the levy dose not pass this would be one of the things that the kids would lose.

The one trend to these replies I see is a focus on technology. It is not about the technology. Kelly Hines says it perfectly in this article: http://keepingkidsfirst.wordpress.com/2009/04/19/its-not-about-the-technology/

In my many years in the edtech field, I have learned if I focus on teaching and learning, teachers will listen. If I talk about tools, only the ones who are interested listen. It took me a long time to learn this valuable lesson. It is one of the many keys to educational change, focus on student learning!
